More views, more followers, going viral, etc. doesn’t necessarily mean more money in your business (and that’s what is most important!). That being said, growing on Instagram is a great way to bring awareness to your brand and get more eyeballs on your offer.
If you are wanting to grow a loyal, completely bought-in Instagram community, here is the secret sauce to doing so:
✨ Having a Super Clear Niche ✨
When you try to talk to everybody, you end up talking to nobody. Figure out WHO you are talking to, so you know their pains/problems, their desires, their obstacles, etc. The more you can speak to their problem and/or their deepest desire, the more you can make content that speaks directly to them, so much so they say, “she is in my head!” This = $$$
✨ Reels, Reels, Reels! ✨
If you want more exposure on IG, reels are non-negotiable. IG highly favors video content (to compete with TikTok), so the more you utilize reels, the more IG will reward you by pushing your content out to more people, and the more people who see your content, the more opportunity for them to follow you!
✨ Valuable Content ✨
People want to know how you can make their life better. Can you help them solve a problem? If you focus on creating valuable content that helps your audience solve a specific problem (which will make their life better!), the more likely people will follow you because you have become a valuable and trusted resource to them. I'd argue this is the most important piece of your growth strategy.
✨ Engagement Strategy ✨
This goes back to knowing WHO you are talking to. When you know who your target audience is, what their struggles are, etc., you can figure out which accounts they are already likely following. Engage with those accounts (your ideal person is already following them!) to give your ideal customers an opportunity to see the value you are adding via the comments section. This prompts them to check out your account! If you've been utilizing an effective content strategy and they are your ideal person, they are likely going to follow you. This is much more effective and time efficient than you seeking out your ideal client via hashtags and spending hours engaging with each of them individually.
✨ Consistent Posting Schedule ✨
By sticking to a consistent posting schedule, you’re essentially letting your followers know that they can count on you, that you are not going to disappear on them. This builds trust and credibility with your audience, which ultimately grows your business. Don't make this out to be a giant, overly time-consuming challenge. Simply choose a schedule that is sustainable for you and won’t overwhelm you (i.e. posting stories 2x/week and a reel 2x/week).
Pro tip: if you want this to work for you, only utilizing one of these strategies isn't enough. You have to implement all five! 📈
I also want to remind you that, while growing on Instagram can help get more eyeballs on your business, it shouldn't be the only thing you are focusing on.
Instead of solely focusing on vanity metrics like followers, views, likes, etc. (things that don't often convert into paying customers or more money/sales in your business), consider shifting your focus to things like:
having an engaged community
actual sales in your business
your feelings around social media
the status of your mental health
Don't forget the whole purpose of growth on Instagram is to 1) attract the right people into your sphere and 2) to sell your product/services! 💸 What good is going viral on IG if you burn yourself out, attract the WRONG people, and/or make no money in the process?
I once had a reel go viral (it got over ONE MILLION views), and my following doubled. Want to know how much money I made as a result of it? ZERO! 😅😬🤦🏼♀️ YEP!
Growing on IG is not a bad thing to focus on, but it shouldn't be the only thing you're focusing on.
